Remember those who came before us, for The Wall endures, because of what they taught you. Honor them, and pass that knowledge on.
Established in 1983, first as a partnership, later as an Arizona corporation, Cox Masonry has been a well-respected presence in commercial masonry construction in Tucson and Southern Arizona.
Founded by James and Thomas Cox, the brothers come from a long line of bricklayers. Great Grandfather, Frank J. Cox, came out west “following the brickpile” in search of work in the final years of the 1890’s. After stopping in Hayden, AZ, (now Tempe, AZ) to work on the construction of the new Flour Mill, he worked his way down to Tucson to work on the new Main Library in the downtown area.
Cox had 4 children, 2 sons and 2 daughters. The sons, William F. Cox and Francis J. Cox (Grandfather) both became bricklayers. Francis Cox eventually had three sons of his own, Bill Cox, Jim Cox, and Tom Cox (Father), also bricklayers. The five Cox’s all worked for local Masonry Contractor Louis V. DeVry and Son until 1966 when the three sons formed Cox Brothers Incorporated.
This successful company was responsible for many large masonry projects in Tucson and Southern Arizona, including many buildings for the University of Arizona, Pima County Government, The United States Government, TUSD, and many Banks, Hotels, Offices, Shopping Centers and Hospitals.
Working with the best General Contractors in Tucson, the Cox Brothers established a reputation for quality work. Cox Brothers, Inc. operated until 1980, when they decided to retire. Having learned the masonry trade, Jim and Tom Cox decided to start a new business, Cox Masonry, Inc., following in the footsteps of the prior generations. Using the same principle of producing a quality product, the Cox name continues to carry on into its second century of Masonry Excellence in Arizona.
